It is all about inspiration that would categorize a piece of art. What is interesting about early art is the intention of the artist. Those artists that painted on cave walls were probably giving instruction as to where a hunter might go to find food. That artist told his story to his family group what he experienced on his long travel to unknown places enhancing and punctuating by carving on cave walls. The category of the early art is probably the same today - intentional and representational. The discovery is exciting because we see it as artistic and the early cave dweller was simply communicating with pictures the story of the hunt.
So many times I want to create art, but without the inspiration it never happens. When the inspiration is not strong enough it never gets finished. When a block accurs reinspiration has to help me overcome the block to finish the work. My personal definition of art is all about the inspiration
